Arts Page – JIS Heritage Competition Awardees Shine! (Part 1)

Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), Enthrose Campbell (right), presents the championship trophy to the 2023 JIS Heritage Competition Essay Winner, Shawnalee Allen of Grove Town Primary and Infant School in Manchester. The awards ceremony was held at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel in St. Andrew on December 12, where category winners and finalists were feted with an array of prizes.

Each year, the JIS Heritage Competition engages youth in dialogue on the country’s heritage using the Arts.

This year’s competition challenged students to interpret the theme, ‘Echoes of Freedom: Tracing Jamaica’s Path From Colonialism to Republic’ and primary-level essay entrants were asked to defend their stance on the question “Should Jamaica remain under the British Monarchy or become a full republic?

Stay tuned to find out how they handled it on today’s Arts Page.
