“Dancehall is bold. Dancehall is rebellious and of course dancehall is undeniably Jamaican and one of its most striking elements is its fashion…”
These strong statements are not my words. They are those of Dr Kirt Henry, Director of the African Caribbean Institute and he made the statement, regarding which most of us can agree, at the opening of a groundbreaking exhibition which, earlier this year, explored the style and identity of male fashion within the dancehall space… One that provided a platform to explore the cultural expressions that shape our national identity, of which dancehall is a major contributor.
Today, come with us to view virtually, a unique exhibition at 12 Ocean Boulevard. We cannot show you the visuals via this medium, but we can let you in on the conversation! On the walls, a story of impact and influence: of resilience, of truth unapologetically spoken through cut and fabric.
