The Full Story

Public Relations Officer at the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), Sicourney Jackson, says that hosting this year’s Radio Remote event served as an opportunity to bring more attention to the island’s south coast.

Done in partnership with Sandals Resorts, from January 25 to 30, Radio Remote saw the island receiving heightened promotion on more than 60 United States-based radio stations in 42 key markets in that country, broadcast live from Sandals South Coast in Westmoreland.

Speaking to JIS News during a special dinner for participants of Radio Remote at the resort recently, Ms. Jackson said the JTB wants to “bring more attention to the south coast, so we’re happy to be a part of this partnership because a lot of times there’s focus placed on Montego Bay, Negril and Kingston”.

“So, we want to ensure that we’re tapping into all the different resort areas, including the south coast, because each resort area has something different to offer. The south coast is known for a more relaxed untouched experience, and we can see that they (participants) appreciate the fact that they’re allowed the opportunity to experience what the south coast offers,” she added.

Ms. Jackson also outlined that the activity aimed to ensure that Jamaica remains “top of mind in different markets, especially the United States, since most of our visitors come from that [country]”.

She said that through the partnership with Sandals, the JTB is ensuring that the messaging is consistent.

“We’re ensuring that we’re putting it out there that Jamaica continues to be safe, and it is the ideal destination for travel. So, we’re happy that Sandals has allowed us to come on board with them, and this will help us to continue to push Jamaica as the ideal place for travel,” Ms. Jackson added.

She told JIS News that the feedback from the participants is that their experiences were positive.

As part of the week’s activities, participants took part in several excursions.

During the broadcasts, listeners were given the opportunity to win trips to the island.
