RADA Connect to Provide Direct Technical Assistance to Farmers

The new Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) Connect initiative is expected to provide direct technical assistance to farmers.

RADA Connect is a strategic outreach programme that delivers RADA’s core services directly to farming communities across Jamaica.

Education and Training Specialist with RADA, Alicia Chambers, told JIS News that the service bridges the gap between farmers and the support they need by improving access to technical assistance.

“RADA Connect is a national outreach initiative designed to deliver the full range of RADA’s technical services directly to farming communities across Jamaica. By going directly to the farm, we ensure that farmers receive timely, relevant advice and practical interventions to boost productivity and stay informed,” she said.

The Initiative was officially launched on May 8 at Newell High School in St Elizabeth.

Farmers will benefit from direct technical assistance in areas such as crop management, livestock care, water management, marketing support and plant protection.

“We will also be registering new entrants into the farming system and updating existing farm profiles. Farmers will be introduced to the RADA Mobile App – digital platform – which will allow for easier access to extension services and more personalised follow-ups,” Ms. Chambers said.

RADA Connect is part of an ongoing national strategy to expand and strengthen agricultural extension delivery.

The programme includes continued field visits, farmer engagement and digital updates.

“RADA Connect is designed to address the limited ratio of farmers to extension officers by improving how we deploy support and respond to farmers’ needs. It highlights our ongoing commitment to innovation, farmer empowerment and national food security,” Ms. Chambers said.

Farmers are encouraged to join the RADA Connect initiative, update their farm details, download the RADA Mobile App, access the services available and stay informed and connected.
