The Full Story

Arrangements are in place to allow public-sector workers who are National Housing Trust (NHT) mortgagors to receive contribution refunds in cash during the current application period.

Assistant General Manager for Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Dwayne Berbick, says refunds would previously have been credited to individuals’ mortgage accounts.

“If the mortgagors prefer not to take it as cash in hand and apply it to their account, we do allow this. We find that, many times, circumstances change, and this pre-payment in the mortgage acts as a cushion so persons are not in arrears immediately,” Mr. Berbick said.

The Assistant General Manager informed that other persons who can receive their refunds in cash are those obtaining loans under the NHT’s joint finance programme.

The NHT is refunding contributions made in 2016 and earlier that have not yet been claimed.

Refund applications must be submitted online from any one of the channels provided by the NHT.

These are the NHT’s Online Portal, which is accessible at https://online.nht.gov.jm/, the NHT’s website at www.nht.gov.jm, and the online mobile application, which is available for download in both the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store.
