Private-sector companies and business entities are being encouraged to support the upcoming Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Coronation by offering higher value prizes and rewards.

The competition, a staple of the annual Independence and Festival celebrations, is scheduled to take place on August 1 at the National Arena, Kingston, under the theme ‘The Jamaican Woman: Strong, Dignified, Creative’.

It is being organised by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), an agency of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport.

The competition will feature 13 parish queens, who are currently in Kingston to undergo a two-week advanced level of training and to pay a number of courtesy calls on the Prime Minister, the Governor-General, ministers of government and other prominent persons.

Chairman of the National Festival Queen Committee, Silvera Castro, told JIS News that the competition does not have a challenge with sponsorship; however, there is need for additional sponsors who can offer higher prizes and rewards to the participants.

“We want to get them on board because this is a good investment… .  We will never turn back an investment,” he said, noting that the competition is a brand and a family show.

At the coronation, the contestants can win more that $1 million in cash and prizes, including sectional awards for ‘Most Active in her Community’, ‘Most Culturally Aware’, ‘Most Popular on Social Media’, ‘Most Poised’, ‘Most Congenial’ and ‘Most Talented’.

Mr. Castro said that Car Dealers and other sponsors could support the competition by offering cars to Festival Queens.

“We can take a car for the winner and a weekend for two and give you all the promo if you are ready for it. We are ready for it,” he said, noting that Festival Queens have received cars in the past.

He urged interested sponsors to contact the Commission’s office, 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10 or call 926-5726-9 or email info@jcdc.gov.jm.

“We will make the necessary adjustments to facilitate them. It is never too late,” he said.
