Prince Tours Good Hope Great House

March 8, 2012

The Full Story

The historic Good Hope Great House, located some five miles south west of the town of Falmouth, was among the stops for His Royal Highness, Prince Henry of Wales (always known as Prince Harry) on his visit to Trelawny on Wednesday (March 7).

While wet conditions prevented an extensive tour of the scenic and expansive grounds, the Prince was able to visit the great house building, which is decorated with 18th and 19th century Jamaican antiques.

During the tour, he met with the owners/managers of the privately-owned property and chatted with the staff. He then left the location for the Half Moon Hotel in Montego Bay.

Built around 1755, the Good Hope Great House sits on 2,000 acres overlooking the Queen of Spain Valley, the meandering Martha Brae River and the mysterious Cockpit Mountains.  The views from Good Hope are said to be among the finest in the Caribbean.

The property, once a prime sugar plantation, contains a rare inventory of historic buildings that have been restored as a prime attraction, offering the tradition of quality hospitality to visitors and residents, who relish history and adventure, and the peace and beauty of nature.

The Prince leaves the island today (March 8) from the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.
