The town of Falmouth, Trelawny, will be graced with the presence of Their Royal Highnesses, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall on Thursday, March 13.
Mayor of Falmouth, Councillor Colin Junior Gager, told JIS News that he feels honoured to know that he will have the opportunity to welcome Their Highnesses to Falmouth.
“Right now we are doing the necessary preparations. We are making sure that the town is clean, drains are properly cleaned and we are taking the necessary steps to ensure that he (the Prince) can see that we really appreciate him being here,” Councillor Gager said.
He noted that Their Royal Highnesses would be visiting at a most appropriate time, when major developmental plans for Falmouth are in high gear.
“This will be a lifetime experience for us here in the parish of Trelawny and I am appealing to the residents in and around Falmouth to be on their best behaviour,” he said.
He informed that Their Royal Highnesses would be visiting the Falmouth heritage renewal building and meeting with the staff there.
“They will then depart to the courthouse and will be received by the Councillors and myself at the Trelawny Parish Council. He will be introduced to the Member of Parliament, the Custos and Senator. He will then view a presentation on the Port Authority plans for the restoration of Falmouth and unveil a plaque at the courthouse to commemorate his visit. They will then visit Water Square for the Jamaican market,” he noted.
The Mayor explained that the Jamaican market would include exhibits of fruits, vegetables and craft items and Their Royal Highnesses would also get a chance to view market activities.
“This visit will go down in our history book, because it is once in a lifetime that we really get to welcome the Prince or anybody from the Royal Family,” he said.
Their Royal Highnesses will depart Falmouth to the Rose Hall Great House in Montego Bay where a reception will be held in their honour.
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will arrive in the island on March 12, for a three-day visit.
