Prime Minister the Most Hon. Andrew Holness has welcomed the new health centre located at Geffrard Place, in Kingston, donated to the public by the Good Samaritan Inn (GSI).

The Prime Minister described the gesture as “commendable”, as the facility will be offering services such as dental care for children and adults, antenatal and postnatal care, and other medical services.

“It is commendable because your assistance and service to the immediate environs and to the wider community remind us that our neighbour is not only the person next door,” the Prime Minister said, in a message read by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Mrs. Colette Roberts-Risden, at the opening of the facility on June 30.

Mr. Holness said the effort “is a true manifestation in response to the call for partnership in building our country, and improving the well-being of our fellowmen”.

According to the Prime Minister, healthcare is critical to national development, and a crucial component for the nation to be productive.

The Prime Minister also lauded the GSI for its plan to include child guidance and mental healthcare at the facility.

Mr. Holness appealed for more corporate donors and volunteers to strengthen the “bond of love and care” in reaching out to those who are challenged.

Another notable service offered at the centre is the feeding of 600 homeless and other needy persons each week. The GSI is affiliated to the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
