Prime Minister Simpson Miller to Chair First Cabinet Meeting Today

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller will chair the first meeting of the government's new Cabinet tomorrow, January 9 starting at eleven.

Immediately following the appointment of the 19 members of Cabinet by the Governor General on Friday afternoon, the Prime Minister charged the Ministers to start working.             

On Friday, and over the weekend, the Minister of National Security, Peter Bunting, met with the Commissioner of Police, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Permanent Secretary and agency heads. 

The Minister of Tourism, Dr. Wyckham McNeil and State Minister, Damion Crawford also met with the executives and heads of agencies of that ministry on Friday. 

Minister of Education, Rev Ronald Thwaites, will be meeting with education officials at 9:00 a.m. ahead of the Cabinet meeting. Other Ministers have also been briefed by their Ministry heads.

Prime Minister Simpson Miller herself worked over the weekend, including inviting the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to a meeting where she outlined the government's intention to renegotiate the terms of the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Project (JDIP).
