Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has congratulated Ms. Sherona Forrester who was selected as the winner of the 2016 Rhodes Scholarship at King’s House on November 19. The Prime Minister expressed her delight and said “I am very pleased to hear that Sherona has been awarded the 2016 Rhodes Scholar title and wish her every success in the pursuit of her academic goals.”

The Prime Minister praised the Rhodes Scholar noting that she is an all-round student who not only excels academically but is also an exceptional athlete. “She is an exemplary student who demonstrates the value in excelling not only in academics, but in other non-academic activities, such as sport, as well. This is the kind of holistic development we encourage among our young people,” said Prime Minster Simpson Miller.

Sherona has been a member of Jamaica’s Senior Football team since 2014 and was also the captain of UWI’s female basketball team from 2012-13 and captain of the UWI senior netball team, 2011-2012.

“It truly warms my heart to see this outstanding achiever triumph through hard work and determination. I have no doubt Sherona will be an excellent ambassador for our country and will do well in her studies at Oxford University in England where she will pursue a Master’s degree in Economics,” said the Prime Minister.
