Prime Minister Andrew Holness praises the West Indies Cricket teams on their historic ICC World Twenty20 victories.

In responding to the victories of the men’s and women’s West Indies cricket teams at the ICC World Twenty20, the Prime Minister said the wins are a testament to the grit and determination of the people of the Caribbean. “All West Indies Cricket fans are today rejoicing at the tremendous success of the teams. I must hail the captain of the women’s team, Stafanie Taylor, especially, as she continues to show great leadership and tenacity in her craft – and the men’s team, while keeping us on edge, showed the world that great things will continue to come from West Indies Cricket”.

The Prime Minister added that the unprecedented double championship along with the recent West Indies victory at the ICC under-19 World Cup should act as an inspiration to all Jamaicans that hard work does pay off. “Many doubted the possibility of these great victories but the teams remained focused on their tasks and their self-belief, fixity of purpose and professionalism won the day. We all should be proud of our men and women and use these victories as motivation in our personal endeavours”.

Prime Minster Holness concluded that the government will examine suitable ways to honour the teams. “Their triumphs should become signposts of success for future generations.
