Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller will head Jamaica’s delegation to attend the 26th Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, which will be held in Nassau, The Bahamas, from February 26 to 27. The meeting will be convened under the Chairmanship of the Rt. Honourable Perry G. Christie, Prime Minister of The Bahamas and Chairman of CARICOM.

The Inter-Sessional Meeting of Heads of Government will focus primarily on the following issues: Reparations for Native Genocide and Slavery; a Regional Marijuana Commission; Financing of the CARICOM Secretariat and Community Institutions; Emoluments and Proposed Pension Rules for Judges of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ); and the Caribbean Knowledge Learning and Network Agency (CKLNA). 

The Meeting of Heads will also discuss principles to guide the identification of CARICOM candidates for International Positions. 

Prime Minister Simpson Miller and other CARICOM Heads of Government will also have an exchange of views with the Director-General of Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Dr. José Granziano Da Silva to discuss food security and the development of agriculture in the Community.

Jamaica’s delegation will depart the island on Wednesday, February 25 and will include Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable Arnold J. Nicholson; Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ms. Onika Miller; and other Senior Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

While the Prime Minister is attending the CARICOM meeting in The Bahamas, the Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Robert Pickersgill will be in charge of the Government. The Prime Minster will return to Jamaica on Saturday, 28th February 2015.
