Prime Minister Extends Condolences to Berbick’s Family

Prime Minister the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller yesterday (October 29), extended condolences to the family and friends of former World Boxing Council (WBC) Heavyweight Champion, Trevor Berbick, who was murdered on (October 28), in Norwich, Portland.
Mr. Berbick, 52, was the first and only Jamaican to hold a world heavyweight title, which he won in March of 1986. The Prime Minister said Jamaicans were saddened to hear of the killing of Mr. Berbick. She said that as the first heavyweight champion from Jamaica, Mr. Berbick made the country and its people very proud. Mrs. Simpson Miller said that everything would be done to bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice, and she is appealing to persons who might have information about the killing to assist the Police. During his professional career, Mr. Berbick had a record of 50 fights, 11 losses and one draw.
