Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller along with His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, were the main speakers at the dedication ceremony of the new Parliament building in Antigua and Barbuda yesterday (October 30).Mrs. Simpson Miller, who was invited by Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Baldwin Spencer, addressed the Joint Sitting of the Lower and Upper Houses in the new building located on Queen Elizabeth Highway.
Prince Edward, who is on an official visit to the Caribbean island for the country’s 25th Independence celebration will read a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
During the dedication ceremony, His Excellency the Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda, Sir James Carlisle; Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer and Leader of the Opposition, Steadroy Benjamin will also offer brief remarks.
Before departing on Tuesday (October 31) for Jamaica, Mrs. Simpson Miller will also appoint Attorney at Law, Septimus Rhudd as Jamaica’s new Honorary Consul in Antigua and Barbuda.
