The Prime Minister, the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, ON, MP will address the Jamaican community in New York as she delivers the keynote message at a Jamaican Community meeting and 6th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference Launch in New York on Thursday, March 26 at the St. Georges Episcopal Church, 209 East 16th Street, New York, NY 10003.
The New York launch, set to begin at 6:30 p.m., is the first in a series of Diaspora launches for the Conference – set to unfold at the Montego Bay Convention Centre from June 13-18, 2015.
Senator, the Honourable Arnold J. Nicholson, QC, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and officials from the Conference preparatory team will also accompany the PM on this important mission to New York, which boasts a substantial number of the tri-state Diaspora figure of 1.1 million (Jamaica Diaspora Institute (JDI) 2014 figures).
Staged under the theme, Jamaica and the Diaspora: Linking for Growth and Prosperity, this year’s Conference seeks to place equal emphasis on social development and trade and investment. It will feature a bigger marketplace with local and overseas exhibitors, complete with fast tracked services from a range of Government agencies and an entertainment aspect dubbed Marketplace Live. The six-day programme concludes with the highly anticipated Diaspora Day of Service, during which members of the Diaspora will execute a range of projects in communities island wide.
A recent and major development n the Conference planning has been the appointment of Orville “Shaggy” Burrell as the 6th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference Ambassador.
Other Diaspora launch locations for the sixth staging of this premier global forum for Jamaica/Diaspora engagement include Grand Cayman, Florida, USA, Toronto and Ontario, Canada and Edmonton, England.
