Primary And Secondary Infrastructure Programme Gets $813 Million

A sum of $813 million has been allocated to the Primary and Secondary Infrastructure Programme for the upcoming fiscal year.
This is contained in the Estimates of Expenditure, which was tabled in the House of Representatives by Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke, on February 18.
The objective of the programme is to construct classrooms and other amenities for the elimination of the shift system and overcrowding at a number of secondary and primary schools, and facilitate the construction of an infant school.
Already under the project, phase two works have been completed at Norman Manley High School; pre-contract activities for construction at Kingston College, Edwin Allen High, Papine High phase one, and Black River High phase 2 have concluded; while pre-contract activities have commenced for Albert Town High, Cedric Titus High, Exchange All-Age, Bridgeport High, Holmwood Technical, Westwood High, Papine High phase 2, Port Antonio High and Dias Infant.
In addition, electrical upgrade at Kemps Hill High and Garvey Maceo Technical High has been completed, electrical upgrade at St. Mary Technical High has commenced, and pre-contract activities for electrical upgrade at Holmwood Technical and Denbigh High have been completed.
Security fencing at Papine High has commenced and pre-contract activities for security fencing at Cedric Titus High and Kingston High have been completed.
For the 2021/22 fiscal year, the project seeks to construct classrooms at 11 high, one all-age, and one infant school; build security fencing at 10 primary schools and one high school; upgrade electrical systems at four high and three primary schools; and complete pre-contract activities for eight schools.
The programme is funded by the Government of Jamaica.
