The Bureau of Women’s Affairs wishes to heartily congratulate our female athletes Shelly-Ann Fraser, Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson on their tremendous feat in making Olympic history to cop gold and double silver medals in the Women’s 100 metre sprint.
To the extent that women play pivotal roles in sports, locally, regionally and internationally, we are pleased to see our sportswomen making such remarkable and impressive strides, contributing to Jamaica’s recognition and status in the arena of competitive sports as well as becoming excellent role models for other young women for all walks of life.
The Bureau of Women’s Affairs is proud that Jamaica is now home to the fastest man, Usain Bolt with his new world record of 9.69 seconds in the Men’s 100 metre final in dramatic fashion and Shelly Ann Fraser, the first Jamaican woman to win the 100 metres at the Olympics. Congrats also to Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson for their brilliant achievement. You have done Jamaica proud!
