Several infrastructural projects, as well as human development activities, are slated to be undertaken this year, under the Poverty Reduction Programme IV, with an allotment of $100 million.
The funds have been provided in the 2015/16 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.
The project aims to empower residents of volatile communities to achieve their fullest potential and contribute to the attainment of a secure, cohesive and just Jamaican society as outlined in Goals 1 and 2 of Vision 2030.
It is being implemented by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), through funding from the European Union.
For the 2015/16 period, it is anticipated that 24 infrastructural projects will be formulated to include schools, police stations and community integrated spaces at a cost of $41 million.
In addition, $59 million is to be spent on non-works activities to include scholarships, employment internships, summer camps/youth workshops, children behaviour modification/parenting programmes.
The project is slated to run from November 2014 to November 2018.
