In an interview with JIS News, Portland Disaster Co-ordinator, Denise Lewis said the activities have been meticulously planned for various venues in the parish, in order to sensitise as many persons as possible about the importance of disaster preparedness, and the steps to be taken to mitigate the effects of disasters.
She pointed out that the resource personnel for the educational talks and coastal hazard workshops will be drawn from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) and the Portland Disaster Committee.
Urging the residents of Portland to participate in the activities, Mrs. Lewis said the knowledge gained would assist them to cope with emergencies.
