The occasion was the vessel’s commissioning at the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Marine headquarters in Newport East, Kingston, on Tuesday, August 9. The custom of breaking a bottle of champagne or wine against a newly commissioned boat’s hull is a longstanding global maritime tradition.

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness (right), congratulates renowned Jamaican artist and art historian, Dr. David Boxer, on being conferred with the Order of Jamaica, during a special ceremony of investiture at Dr. Boxer’s home in St. Andrew today (August 9). Dr. Boxer was awarded ahead of the scheduled National Honours and Awards Ceremony on National Heroes Day in October due to his failing health. He has been recognised for his invaluable contribution to the National Gallery of Jamaica and the development of the arts.
