Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, urges citizens to prepare for the hurricane season while addressing the hand over of housing unit in Seaview Gardens, Kingston on June 3.

The Full Story

Citizens are urged to be adequately prepared for the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs from June 1 through to November 30.

The encouragement came from Prime Minister the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, during a ceremony for the hand over of a two-bedroom house to a resident of the Seaview Gardens community in Kingston on June 3.

“I am asking the residents to start thinking about your preparedness plan. Protect your documents [such as] your birth papers, titles, passport and so forth,” he said.

Prime Minister Holness advised the residents to also set aside necessities such as drinking water and canned foods in the event that a hurricane strikes the island.

He said that the preparedness plan should also include searching communities for trees that could pose a danger to personal property and infrastructure.

The Prime Minister noted further that programmes are in place for the cleaning of major gullies to prevent flooding.

“Be prepared, the Government is preparing, and you should be prepared for your household [also],” he emphasised.

During a recent meeting of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC), Deputy Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Winston Ennis, informed that the municipality will embark on a comprehensive drain-cleaning programme across the Corporate Area in preparation for the hurricane season.
