Prime Minister the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller will travel to Canada today (Sunday, October 21) on a five-day official visit. The Prime Minister is visiting Canada at the invitation of that country's Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Stephen Harper.
While in Canada, the Prime Minister and her Canadian counterpart will hold bilateral talks on a range of issues including trade, investment and development.  In various engagements, Prime Minister Simpson Miller will also meet potential investors and members of the tourism and travel trade, address Canadian business and civic leaders as well as Jamaicans living in Canada.
The Prime Minister will also meet with Canada's Governor General the Honourable David Johnston and be hosted at a welcome ceremony where she will be met by the Honourable Noël A. Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate, and the Honourable Andrew Scheer, Speaker of the House of Commons.
Other activities during the five-day official visit will include a joint reception hosted by Prime Ministers Simpson Miller and Harper, a meeting between Prime Minister Simpson Miller and the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
The Jamaican Prime Minister will address Canadian industry leaders at a Business Roundtable of the Canadian Council of the Americas National Club and address a luncheon hosted by the Canadian Club, and meet travel and tourism business interests in Canada at a function hosted by the Jamaica Tourist Board. The visit will also include a meeting with members of the Jamaican Diaspora in Canada where she will update them on government policies and programmes.
The Prime Minister is accompanied on Senator the Honourable A. J. Nicholson, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; Miss Onika Miller, Permanent Secretary Office of the Prime Minister and Mr. Ricardo Allicock, Director of Bilateral Relations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
The Prime Minister will return to Jamaica on Friday, October 26.  During the Prime Minister's visit to Canada, Dr. the Honourable Peter Phillips, Minister of Finance will be in charge of the Government.
