Prime Minster, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller, will present a National Medal to an individual who has contributed to the development of Science and Technology in Jamaica, at Gala dinner on November 12.

The recipient will be chosen from three nominees, and forms part of activities to celebrate National Science and Technology Month in November, under the theme: ‘Science for Life’.

The awards function will also culminate the third biennial science and technology conference at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston.

Addressing a JIS ‘Think Tank’ on October 30, Minister of Science, Technology Energy and Mining, Hon. Phillip Paulwell, says the award will be one of the most significant features for the Month.

“The Prime Minster and myself will host the gala affair at the Pegasus (Hotel), when we will honour, through her designation of the Prime Minister’s Medal for excellence in Science and Technology, an individual from three, who have been nominated,” Minster Paulwell said.

On that same night, awards will be presented to Science and Technology innovators in 10 categories, as part of the Innovation Awards ceremony.

Mr. Paulwell told JIS News that he is pleased with the close to 100 entries received so far from individuals across the country vying for the innovation awards. “They are all excellent entries,” the Minister said.
