PM off to CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller departs Jamaica Tuesday July 3rd for St. Lucia where she will attend the 33rd Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, CARICOM. The meeting takes place July 4 – 6.

As one of the newly elected Leaders, Mrs. Simpson Miller will address the Heads at the Opening Ceremony and also Chair the Prime Ministerial Sub Committee on External Negotiations.

The three day meeting will be presided over by CARICOM Chairman, Dr. the Hon. Kenny Anthony, Prime Minister of St Lucia. The Heads will also examine the thrust of the Community’s Foreign Policy approach given the on-going changes in global political and economic circumstances; the on-going reform process in the Community, as well as developments in Haiti and matters in relation to youth development.

Accompanying the Prime Minister are Senator the Hon. A.J. Nicholson, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; Her Excellency Sharon Saunders, High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago; and Ambassador Paul Harker, Under Secretary – Bilateral and Regional Affairs

During the Prime Minister’s absence, the Hon. Dr Peter Phillips, Minister of Finance and Planning will be in charge of the government.  Mrs. Simpson Miller returns to the island on July 7.
