Government has secured several investment opportunities which will result in more than a dozen new investment projects some of which will commence soon and which will generate some seven thousand jobs.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller made the announcements in her address September 16 at the 74th annual conference of the People's National Party.

Mrs. Simpson Miller said the investment projects are estimated at 7.5 billion Jamaican dollars.

Among the projects mentioned by the Prime Minister were:

·         Dolphin Cove Group which involves another dolphin attraction and animal park

·         West Kingston Power Partners which is building a 66 megawatt energy plant

·         Hinduja Global Solutions which is an ICT project

·         Vistaprint which has expanded its ICT operations; and

·         Sutherland Global which is Call Centre out of India which will begin operations in Jamaica in October.

the task of rebuilding investor confidence was happening with potential in agriculture, health, energy, the environment, labour, culture, sports information, tourism and security, among others.

Mrs. Simpson Miller said "we are now working on an exciting new project that will make Jamaica into a world-class international hub for world trade by developing our wharves, harbours, and transshipment system. This big idea of a Logistics Hub at the centre of the Americas serving global markets enjoys the total buy-in of the government. Work is now being done to prepare us to move full speed ahead with this transformative mega-project."

Other mega projects mentioned by the Prime Minister include the South to North Highway project linking Mandela Highway to Ocho Rios valued at some US$600 million; the Fort Augusta Port Expansion Programme; expansion of the Kingston Trans-shipment Zone and the Caymanas Economic Zone.

"These are part of the vision to facilitate growth and sustainable development and provide employment," the Prime Minister concluded.
