Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller will lead the charge in her South West St Andrew constituency on Saturday, October 4, 2014, as the national clean-up effort to control the spread of the CHIKV cases and rid communities of mosquito breeding sites continues.
Members of the community will be joined by the Prime Minister in the Payne Land Division, along Spanish Town Road in clearing the area of debris and possible mosquito breeding sites. The initiative will get underway at 7 o’clock Saturday morning. Members of the community have been mobilised to participate in the clean-up.
In encouraging the full participation of members of the constituency, Prime Minister Simpson Miller said “it is important that we protect the people of the country while recognising that everyone has a responsibility to keep their surroundings clean of debris and other material which can serve as potential breeding sites of mosquitoes which carry the CHIKV.”
Meanwhile, Barry O’Brien, CEO of Digicel Jamaica, one of the corporate entities supporting the clean-up said “when the Government asked us to be a part of this clean-up, we jumped at the opportunity to help; we are not only donating money towards the effort but more importantly, Digicel staff will be coming out in force to help people in those communities most in need.”
