The Prime Minister, Hon. Bruce Golding, has hailed the world-class performances of Usain Bolt and Veronica Campbell-Brown in the Reebok Grand Prix at the Icahn Stadium in New York tonight. In a statement, the Prime Minister said that all Jamaica celebrates Usain’s tremendous achievement in setting a new world record of 9.72 seconds in the men’s 100 meters and Veronica’s posting of 10.91 seconds in the women’s 100 meters, the fastest time recorded this year.
He conveyed warm congratulations on behalf of the government and people of Jamaica to these two fine athletes and praised them for bring glory to their country.
Usain’s feat, Mr. Golding said, was especially gratifying since the 100 meters is not his distance of choice and his record-breaking performance was testimony to his enormous talent and unyielding determination.
The Prime Minister said that both these athletes had signaled what Jamaica can accomplish when we go to Beijing in August. He said that the will have the full support of the government and people of Jamaica to whom that have already brought so much joy and pride.
