The Full Story

Prime Minister, the Hon. Bruce Golding yesterday telephoned Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Patrick Manning, to congratulate him on the victory of his party, the People’s National Movement (PNM), in Monday’s (November 5) general elections.
In a follow-up letter to Mr. Manning, Mr. Golding said the people of Trinidad and Tobago had spoken, and had placed renewed confidence in Mr. Manning’s vision and leadership of the twin-island Republic. “As you assume a second term of office, we expect that the rapid progress to social and economic development will continue in full gear, as you move toward the implementation of ‘Vision 20/20’,” Mr. Golding stated. He pointed out that the victory of the PNM augurs well for the regional integration movement, which now stands at a critical juncture, as the CARICOM Single Market is consolidated.
Prime Minister Golding said he looked forward to continued collaboration on issues of mutual importance, at both the bilateral and regional levels, and offered best wishes for continued prosperity, peace and stability, and the successful continuation of Mr. Manning’s tenure as Prime Minister.
The PNM won 26 out of the 41 seats that were being contested in a general election for the first time in the history of the republic. The incumbent party won its third successive term in government while the United National Congress Alliance (UNCA) won the remaining 15 seats.
