Prime Minister the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller has extended warm congratulations to Jamaica’s Head of State, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on achieving the milestone of being the longest reigning Monarch in British history.
“I extend best wishes on behalf of a Government and people who have never wavered in our love and respect for her graciousness, sophistication, humility, charm and the dutiful manner in which she has carried out her royal responsibilities over these more than 63 years as Sovereign,” the Prime Minister said during her remarks at the celebratory tribute in honour of Her Majesty at King’s House on Wednesday, September 9.
Mrs. Simpson Miller noted that Jamaica’s proud, rich and colourful legacy of association with the British Monarchy will always constitute an important part of the country’s national heritage. The Prime Minister also noted that as Head of the Commonwealth, “Her Majesty the Queen has presided with dignity and an abundance of knowledge, wisdom and great diplomacy.” Importantly, Mrs. Simpson Miller added that the Monarch has displayed great political skills that have helped to diffuse tensions in international relations far beyond expectations.
The Prime Minister stated that Jamaica, which has been visited by the Queen 6 times during her reign, joins the rest of the world in saluting “the amazing strength of character, the quiet but unshakable defence of sound Christian values and the remarkable and selfless sense of duty, which all characterise Her Majesty personally as well as her Reign.”
