The Full Story

Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, has commended the residents of St. Elizabeth for their strength and deep commitment to face the challenges with which they are confronted.
The Prime Minister, in a message read by Mayor of Black River, Councillor Jeremy Palmer, at the launch of the parish’s homecoming celebrations yesterday (Nov. 24), at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Barbary Hall, noted that St. Elizabeth boasts a reputation as one of the country’s most developed rural parishes and enjoys a rich and diversified culture, but recent natural disasters have destabilised the parish’s infrastructural base.
“These eventualities have failed to dampen the spirit of the people, whose determination and resilience have proven victorious, as they strive to rebuild their lives and parish,” Mr. Golding stated.
He noted that the homecoming celebrations, which will have the input of overseas nationals, “send a clear signal that members of our Jamaican Diaspora are willing to lend their expertise, resources and support to our country’s advancement, and that fire of loyalty and patriotism has remained kindled, despite the years and miles that have separated us”.
He invited Jamaicans to share in the celebrations, noting that the planned activities provide an opportunity “for future, sustained collaboration with our overseas counterparts. The opportunity will also be presented for family, friends, colleagues and associates to gather in a spirit of oneness, and share fond memories of St. Bess.”
