Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, has hailed the recent investment in new office spaces by the Guardsman Group of Companies, as an expression of confidence in the potential of the Jamaican economy to grow beyond its current boundaries.

Mrs. Simpson Miller, who officially declared open the new office building for Guardsman Armoured Limited, commended the company for its contribution to Jamaica’s progress; and for securing private sector assets over the years.

She described the investment as “confident entrepreneurship”. The new building is located at 1-9 South Camp Road in Kingston and consists of a large corporate office; an archival building with a basement; a large processing room for future operational growth; a maintenance office; changing room for staff; and a large bullet proof turret.

“Symbolically,  the construction of this new building accords with the major objective of my government, which is to grow the Jamaican economy, step-by-step, block-by-block, all on the foundation of unity, patience and an understanding of the history and character of our people,” Mrs. Simpson Miller said.

She also expressed the firm belief that Jamaica can overcome its economic challenges if the government and the private sector work constructively together.

“The government’s commitment to rebalance the economy by debt reduction, the expansion of opportunities, job creation, improving the quality of life for the Jamaican people, and encouragement of private sector investment, is working,” she stated.

“I am  convinced that in the process of meeting this challenge, we can create good quality jobs in this country, and that our private sector has the capacity to invest and  be innovative,” the Prime Minister said.

She noted that it is now up to all sectors to work together in building a strong and sustainable economy, capable of generating wealth, decent jobs, and higher levels of productivity.

Executive Chairman of the Guardsman Group, Kenneth Benjamin, told JIS News that the company has invested approximately $500 million in this the third phase of its 20-year investment plan. He explained that with the building complete, the company will now be focussed on offering several new services to its clients. These, he said, will be announced at a later date.

Guardsman Armoured Limited began as a franchise of Brinks Inc. in 1965. It contracts approximately 550 persons in areas including processing, transit, treasury, maintenance, ATM services, ancillary and administrative roles.

The company has 75 armoured trucks across the island servicing sectors including banking, retail and government sectors. It offers services such as lodgement consolidation, deposit processing, cash accounting, and cash packaging for clients.
