Speaking at the Ceremony, Member of Parliament for South Western St. Andrew and Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller commended the graduates for “making the choice to improve their level of education” and encouraged them to “never stop improving themselves.”
The Majesty Gardens Community Development Education Programme (MGCDEP) was implemented through a partnership between the Jamaica Foundation For Lifelong Learning (JFLL), the Planning Institute of Jamaica (through the Community Renewal Programme) and the Citizens Security and Justice Programme (CSJP).
The programme covered topics such as Conflict Management, Career Counselling, Time Management, Money Management and Stress Management and targeted adult learners and unattached youths between the ages of 18 -60 over a 2-year period.
Pointing out that the prosperity of the nation is dependent on the education of its people, Mrs. Simpson Miller congratulated the graduates for persisting in spite of the challenges and for recognising the importance of education to their development.
Graduate of the programme, Gary Godfrey expressed that his experience in the initiative has changed his life as he is now more sociable and respectful. He added that the programme has given him the drive to seek a career in phlebotomy, a dream which only started after his involvement in the project. While expressing gratitude for the initiative, he implored the partners to continue the project in other communities.
