Thousands of children are set to benefit from a playground to be constructed on a section of the lands of the National Heroes Park. This comes as the Early Childhood Commission (ECC) has successfully forged a partnership with Campus Crusade for Christ and Kids Around the World.
The play equipment valued at approximately US$100,000 is being donated free of charge to the country. Construction of the 102 x 60 feet facility is scheduled to take place during the week of September 21-26, 2008 with the help of volunteers from the surrounding communities as well as representatives of Game Time Inc, manufacturers of the play equipment. Volunteers representing the donor agencies will also aid in the construction process.
Executive Director of the Commission like many of other ECD stakeholders is pleased about the project which is indeed a major milestone for Jamaica as it is the first such facility of its type and will be opened to the public free of charge. “We are most appreciative as this play area will benefit not only the children of the communities surrounding the Park, but also children from other communities and early childhood institutions who will no doubt make use of the facility.
Campus Crusade for Christ is an inter-denominational Christian organization, with a local office in Jamaica while Kids around the World is an international non profit organization which has a vision of providing safe play equipment for children. Since the start of their affiliation in 2003, Campus Crusade for Christ and Kids around the world have installed scores of playgrounds in communities worldwide. “We care for kids, we love kids. We just want them to enjoy being kids,” a spokesperson from Kids Around the World said.
