Plans are advanced for the staging of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) Northern Region Festival of Foods.
The event is slated for Friday (April 11) at Gray’s Inn Sports Ground in St. Mary.
Manager for the JCDC’s Northern Region, Marlene Pusey-Reid, told JIS News that the “grand festive occasion”, which will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., will feature the culinary arts competition and exhibition and will include demonstrations of traditional folk forms such as revival, nine night, quadrille, maypole, ring play, tambu, bruckins party, dinki mini and kumina. There will also be live music from mento bands.
“Other attractions will include booth displays by various agencies such as the Northeast Regional Health Authority (NERHA) and the Jamaica Fire Brigade, among others. We will also have the mystery basket competition, napkin fold competition, table setting competition and celebrity cook off competition, frozen novelties, meals, and snacks,” she said, noting that admission to the event is free.
Mrs. Pusey-Reid is inviting members of the public to come out in large numbers and support the event, which promises to be educational and exciting.
