PICA Staff Receive Training in Chinese Culture

Four staff members from the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) are currently participating in a seminar entitled Chinese Culture & Economy for Government Officials from Developing Countries in Beijing, China. The four are among 25 participants from several developing countries who are pursuing the programme which was organized by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce through the Beijing International Chinese College (BICC). The course runs from May 20 — June 16, 2015.

The aim of the seminar is to help government officials from developing countries to know more about modern-day China, its culture and economy in order to strengthen co-operation between China and developing countries around the world.

Participants in the seminar will gain exposure to Chinese culture and language through lectures and discussions at the BICC as well as field trips to interesting sites including the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven, Forbidden City, Terra Cotta Warrior Museum in Xi’an and the Shenzhen Museum. They will also visit a few universities, companies and certain sections of government organizations within China.

The four participants in the programme are Orlando Williams, PICA’s Director Immigration, Stephan Latty, Immigration Supervisor at the Sangster International Airport (SIA), Sarah Oban-Hunter, Immigration officer SIA and Suzette Rookwood, Case Officer PICA Citizenship Unit.

It is expected that the programme will assist PICA staff to effectively carry out work-related activities involving China and Chinese nationals.
