Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness (second right), cuts the ribbon during a ceremony to handover a $7 million three-bedroom house to resident of Hopeful Village in St. Andrew, Thia Jones, recently. The unit was constructed under the Government’s New Social Housing Programme (NSHP). Others (from left) are Opposition Leader and Member of Parliament, St. Andrew South, Mark Golding, and Chairperson, NSHP Oversight Committee, Judith Robb Walters. The NSHP comprises three components – the provision of indigent housing, which will see 315 housing units (five for each of the 63 constituencies) constructed per annum; relocation of vulnerable communities, which will give priority to persons in imminent danger; and the upgrading of tenement yards (one per constituency).
