Volunteer, Jodeane Bailey reads a book to students at the opening of the sixth ‘Di Corna Library’ in Cassava Piece, St. Andrew, on May 7, which was observed as Read Across Jamaica Day.  Di Corna Library is a sustainable community initiative aimed at providing a variety of books and school resources to under-served communities. Under the initiative, conceptualised by education specialist Rachel McDonald, old refrigerators are repurposed into book cupboards to store books that children and adults can borrow, read and return.

Founder of the  ‘Di Corner Library’ Rachael McDonald (right), shares in conversation with (from left) Education Community Advocate, O’Neil Morrison; Member of Parliament for Manchester North Eastern, Audley Shaw; and Member of Parliament for St. Andrew North Central, Karl Samuda at the opening of the sixth Di Corna Library on May 7, at 5 Cassava Piece beside the Constant Spring Primary School in St. Andrew.  Di Corna Library is a sustainable community initiative aimed at enabling children and adults in underserved communities to access a variety of books and school resources by the setting up of libraries made from repurposed old refrigerators.
