Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange (centre), joins Jamaican sprint legend Asafa Powell (third left), in honouring retired Physical Education Teacher at Charlemont High School, Elaine Fraser, who helped shaped Mr. Powell's athletic development. Sharing the moment are Principal of Charlemont High School and President of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), Garth Gayle; Mr. Powell's wife, Alyshia Miller-Powell; Regional Director and Representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Cluster Office of the Caribbean, Eric Falt; Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Teaching Council (JTC), Dr. Winsome Gordon; and Programme Manager, Jamaica National Commission for UNESCO, Roberta Ellis. Occasion was the recent World Teachers' Day 2026 Commemoration under the theme 'Teachers Inspiring Champions: The Role of Educators in Sporting Excellence and National Development' at the Ministry’s offices in New Kingston. Mr. Powell delivered the main address on the topic 'The Teachers Who Believed in Me.'

Mr. Powell spoke on the topic 'The Teachers Who Believed in Me'. The Ministry marked World Teacher's Day under the theme 'Teachers Inspiring Champions: The Role of Educators in Sporting Excellence and National Development', recognising the vital role educators play in nurturing sporting talent and shaping the values behind athletic success.
