On the heels of the recent launch of the PetroCaribe Development Fund’s (PDF) new website on January 19, 2015, the Fund unveiled its Social Media tools Facebook and Twitter, effective Monday, February 2, 2015. With a view to highlight the work of the Fund and heighten awareness regarding its role, objectives and purpose, the Fund’s social media efforts are timely.

With a simple search of the name of the Fund, the sites provide postings and tweets that reiterate information from articles and stories related directly to the PDF or the region. By the very nature of these sites, visitor input and interaction will be facilitated through re-tweeting, sharing and making comments, a significant aspect that supports the Fund’s feedback retrieval effort from the public. Information regarding the Fund’s initiatives and project financing will serve to provide direct insight into the mandate of the PDF which is to upgrade the physical and social infrastructure of Jamaica as well as assist in developing human resources in low-income communities across Jamaica. These social sites will also highlight the PDF’s support of GOJ’s economic programme and its financial obligations with Venezuela.

“The development of the PDF social media sites, and in general, our heightened online presence underscores our desire to more effectively and efficiently communicate with our publics and stakeholders in a manner that offers timely relay and currency of messages and information,” said the CEO of PDF, Dr. Wesley Hughes.

The PDF social media effort strengthens the Fund’s resolve to provide relevant information regarding its role and operations as well as news in the energy industry. It also supports the Fund’s desire to create channels that allow for two-way communication with its publics and stakeholders.
