The PetroCaribe Development Fund (PDF) will launch its new website on January 19, 2015 and visitors will be invited to explore its content at petrocaribejm.com or petrocaribejm.org.

The new website has been designed to provide the ultimate user-friendly experience with easy navigation and functionality throughout its pages.

Visitors will be allowed to access information on the Fund’s initiatives and projects through detailed articles, photos and video clips and the site will also include extensive information to help visitors understand the role, objectives and purpose of the Fund. Information will also be available on project financing, which will serve to provide direct insight into the social impact and reach of the PDF in communities across Jamaica.

“Every modern institution should have channels for linking with the rest of the world and this website is very useful in doing so. It is the most potent tool with which to engage in commerce, sharing ideas and general human interaction”, said Dr. Wesley Hughes, CEO, PDF.

“The development of the PDF website is geared at communicating with our publics and stakeholders to heighten public awareness about what we do, why and how”, he continued.

The site will highlight the PDF’s financial support across a wide range of sectors including energy, and education with special focus on human resource development, physical and social infrastructural improvement and the support of GOJ’s economic programme.

The PDF website will also offer visitors the latest news on the Fund, and the country’s general economic and financial arrangements with Venezuela. Additionally, it will provide a rich online content regarding local and regional happenings pertaining to the energy industry.

The PetroCaribe Development Fund (PDF) was created in December 2006 as a body corporate through the enactment by the Jamaican Parliament of an Act to Amend the Petroleum Act.

The main purpose of the Fund is to manage the proceeds which accrue to Jamaica under the deferred financing arrangement of the PetroCaribe Energy Cooperation Agreement with Venezuela.

Specifically, the Fund is charged with receiving proceeds that flow to Jamaica as loan funds under the Agreement; providing loan financing for approved projects undertaken by the Government and other public bodies, receiving repayments from borrowers; and meeting the debt servicing obligation to Venezuela.

The proceeds are intended to support the Government’s development programs within the context of the regional and bilateral agreements signed with the Government of Venezuela.
