The Full Story

Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in need of assistance are being urged to reach out to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

Speaking during a TikTok Live last night, Portfolio Minister, Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr., said there is a number available for use only by PWDs.

“If you are alone, contact (876) 447-0444. This is a WhatsApp number dedicated to persons with disabilities for persons to share their concerns,” he said.

Minister Charles Jr. is also urging citizens to visit the website of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) for critical parish information.

“Persons should go onto ODPEM’s site and look to see what’s there or speak to the parish managers from the Labour and Social Security Ministry and Local Government and Community Development Ministry and they will guide you. That’s what they are there to do,” he said.

Persons can visit https://www.odpem.org.jm/shelters/ for a full list of shelters. All 881 shelters islandwide are active and ready to accommodate persons.
