Citizens are being reminded to follow updates on Hurricane Beryl and emergency response measures from the official communication channels.
These are the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), the Meteorological Service of Jamaica (MET Office), and the Jamaica Information Service (JIS).
Giving an update on emergency response measures, Director General of ODPEM, Richard Thompson, told JIS News, today (July 3), that persons can get reliable and up to date information from those established channels.
“We are saying to persons, information coming out of the NEOC, with the ODPEM leading and coordinating with the NEOC; MET Office being the lead as it relates to the meteorological event, and the JIS as the communication cell within the NEOC, is the official means of communication. Information going out through the NEOC is viable information. Take the information from that official line of communication,” he advised.
Mr. Thompson said this is important for persons to be able to monitor developments and act quickly, based on information from these credible sources.
