The Full Story

Persons can view award-winning pieces of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) 2023 Jamaica Creative Writing Competition at parish libraries.

The exhibition, organised by the JCDC in collaboration with the National Library of Jamaica and the Jamaica Library Service, is open to the public free of cost.

The pieces are currently being showcased at the parish library in St. Ann and will subsequently be in Trelawny.

The annual islandwide tour, which began last November, will end in July 2024.

Director of Arts Development and Training at the JCDC, Andrew Brodber, told JIS News that the exhibition will be at parish libraries for about two weeks, after which it will be at the National Library of Jamaica, 12 East Street, downtown Kingston.

Mr. Brodber said the exhibition has more than 60 creative works by Jamaicans who received awards in the categories of Gold, Silver and Merit.

They entered in five areas – Poetry, Short Stories, Novels, Essays and Plays.

He is encouraging everyone to visit the exhibition and discover the wonders of books and reading.

“The exhibition is up. They can come and have a look at it. If they want to make comments they can write in a book. They can also send the comments to us in any way they choose,” he added.

The Director commended the parish libraries and the National Library for hosting the exhibition.

“They have stuck with us all these years and we are very thankful for that,” he said.

He said the JCDC is in the process of engaging providers to have the exhibition featured online via the JCDC’s website.

“We want the exhibition to not only be physical but also online, so in short order we will have that up and featured on our website, so persons can check with us. We are engaging to have it up and running.” he added.

Persons are encouraged to visit the JCDC’s website at www.jcdc.gov.jm and follow its social media pages – Instagram & Twitter: @jcdcjamaica, and Facebook – for additional information.
