Persons Attending Swearing-In Ceremony to Be Seated By 3:00 P.M

Members of the public who wish to attend the swearing-in ceremony for Prime Minister designate, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, on January 5, are asked to be seated by 3:00 p.m., on the directions of the ushers.

Mrs. Simpson Miller, the nation’s 7th Prime Minister, is being installed for the second time. The ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at King’s House.

The gates of King’s House will be open for general admission  at 2:00 p.m. Persons walking-in should use the Hope Road entrance, while motorists, including official buses, are asked to enter by the East King’s House Road gate, and park as directed by traffic police.

No Whistles or Vuvuzelas to Ceremony

In addition, the public is being reminded not to take noisemakers, such as whistles and vuvuzelas to the ceremony, as these will not be allowed at the event.

Motorists who do not plan to attend the ceremony are advised to avoid roads adjoining King’s House, during the hours of 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. These thoroughfares include West King’s House and East King’s House Roads and the Hope Road/Lady Musgrave Road intersection. Alternative routes include Trafalgar Road and Barbican Road. 

Motorists are also reminded that the usual no-parking zones will be in effect for Hope Road and other main roads adjoining King’s House.

The swearing-in ceremony will be carried live on the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ) cable channel, several radio and television stations and also streamed on the website of the Jamaica Information Service at: http://www.jis.gov.jm/videos/live.
