Acting Group Managing Director of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ), Nigel Logan has said that the second of the PCJ’s Energy Seminars which will be hosted on Wednesday March 16 at the PCJ Auditorium has taken on greater significance given the current oil situation globally.

“Energy is always important but even more so now with what’s going on in the Middle East and Northern Africa. Irrespective of this, we will continue to use our seminars as a key channel to interact with the public and close the knowledge gap on the energy technologies and practices that we can utilize to cut our energy costs and thus improve our livelihoods and businesses”, he said.

In keeping with this emphasis on communication, Mr. Logan also informed that the seminar would be streamed live at www.pcj.com to ensure that as many persons as possible are exposed to the information and can participate in the discussion. Admission to the seminar is free.

The seminar which commences at 5:30 p.m. will feature presentations on:

·        Light-emitting Diode (LED) Lighting Technologies

·        Induction Lighting

·        The Ministry of Energy and Mining’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Programme

The PCJ will host a number of seminars in Kingston and other parishes throughout the year to foster informed public discussion on energy related issues under the theme “Jamaica’s Energy Future”. The PCJ hosted the first in its series of energy seminars on Thursday March 3, 2011 which saw a turnout of approximately 80 persons.

The mandate of the PCJ is to undertake the development and promotion of Jamaica's energy resources in a manner that is beneficial to the country and protects the environment.
