Patterson to give update on Haiti to OAS

The CARICOM Representative for the Strategic Plan for the Reconstruction of Haiti, the Rt. Hon. P. J. Patterson, has been invited by the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS), to give an update on the role of CARICOM and its efforts towards the reconstruction of Haiti.
Mr. Patterson will address the Council on April 29, at an extraordinary meeting at 10:00 a.m. at the headquarters of the OAS, in downtown Washington, D.C.
In an interview with JIS News, Chairman of the Permanent Council of the OAS, Ambassador Carmen Lomellin said that it is fitting that “we invite Mr. Patterson to update the council members on the recently concluded donor conference that took place in New York on March 31, 2010. It is particularly important to share with Haiti’s hemisphere partners, the role and activities of CARICOM.”
Ambassador Lomellin also disclosed that Haitian President, His Excellency Rene Preval will also address members of the Council.
Later in the afternoon, Mr. Patterson and the Haitian President will participate in the centennial celebration of the House of the Americas and the planting of a ‘Peace Tree’ in the Hall of the Americas at the OAS.
