Minister of Education, Andrew Holness, praised the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH) for helping to significantly increase enrolment in secondary schools.

“We have seen in education a significant increase in enrolment of children particularly at the secondary level,” Minister Holness said.

Minister Holness was participating in the monthly call in programme, Jamaica House Live, on February 23. Minister of Labour and Social Security, Pearnel Charles hosted the programme for Prime Minister Bruce Golding who is attending CARICOM meetings in Grenada.

Minister Holness said that 220,000 children are on the programme and being assisted to attend school. He also noted that $1.9 billion goes directly to nutritional support for children through PATH.

Reassuring a principal of a basic school who called the programme, Minister Holness also said that some basic schools can now get direct grants through PATH and that a total of 96,000 basic school children can be assisted through these grants.
