Partnership Important to Business Profitability and National Building – Charles

Minister of Labour and Social Security, Pearnel Charles, has pointed to the importance of partnership among government, employers, workers and their representatives, in ensuring the profitability of business and to build a more productive society.
“Partnership is one of, if not the most essential element in the way forward. If Jamaica is to progress further, it requires actual commitment from the employer, the worker and the Government,” he stated, assuring that the Government is ready to work in this direction.
The Labour Minister was addressing the opening of the Jamaica Employers’ Federation (JEF) annual Business and Workplace Convention yesterday (May 21) at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort in Ocho Rios, St. Ann. The event is being held at the under the theme: ‘Succeeding in Turbulent Times: Partnership, Performance, Productivity’.
Minister Charles commended the country’s business leaders to their contribution to economic development, noting that their value to and sacrifices for the welfare of workers, and the country at large, were not often recognised.
“On behalf of the Government of Jamaica, we appreciate what you have done for Jamaica. We appreciate what you can do in the progress of Jamaica,” he stated.
He said that the Ministry of Labour was taking a new approach to human resource development, and called on the business leaders to join in the revolution so as to achieve the best possible results.
The three-day JEF Convention, which is in its 27th year, is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, May 24.
