The Houses of Parliament wishes to inform the public that Parliament is still in session.  The Houses of Parliament emphasizes this in light of the numerous queries it has received as a result of an article published in the October 5 edition of the Gleaner Online first entitled “Parliament Suspended Indefinitely” and later “Parliament Adjourned”.

The motion by the Hon. Andrew Holness, Leader of Government Business in the House of Representatives at Tuesday’s sitting of the House of Representatives to adjourn the sitting for a “a date to be fixed” was in no way irregular.  “A date to be fixed” simply means that the date for the next meeting has not yet been decided and could even indicate a sitting on the following day.

Members of the public are being reminded that the Parliament can only be dissolved by a proclamation from the Governor-General.
